Summer Reading Programs For The Kids 2011
I love encouraging my kids to read during the summer. What better way than FREE rewards and activities. Let me know if you find anymore. Lifeway Christian usually has one, but I’m not finding updated 2011 info yet.
Barnes & Noble
Download the FREE reading journal and record the books your child reads. After reading 8 books, your child will earn a free book! Take the journal to your local Barnes & Noble to redeem the journal for a free book. Your child can pick the free book based on a preselected list. My kids do this every year and enjoy picking out their free book.
Book It Summer Break Sweepstakes
After your child reads five books have them submit the Summer Break form for a chance to win a prize pack. The prize pack includes tote bag, water bottle, mini flier, mini ball, sunglasses, jump rope, book light, Mr. Popper’s Penguins and a $20 Visa gift card.
Have your child record their books on the Double Dog Dare form and receive a FREE book when they read 10. This offer is available for kids 12 and under. Your child can pick the free book from a preselected book list. This program starts 6/1/11.
Chuck E Cheese Rewards Calendar
Print out the rewards calendar and record the books your child reads. Bring the chart into a participating Chuck E Cheese and earn 10 free tokens.
Half Price Books Feed Your Brain
Download the reading log and record how many minutes a week your child reads. If your child reads 600 minutes or more by July 25- August 7th they can turn in their reading log for $5 in Back to School Bucks. Feed Your Brain kick off is June 5th at 2pm at your local Half Price Books.
PBS Kids Summer Reading Challenge
A free 6-week program through PBS Kids & iVillage to help children discover the joys of reading. You’ll receive:
- A daily email with fun activities to build reading skills
- Tricks and advice from your Challenge coach
- Great book suggestions for kids of all ages
- Tips from other parents taking the challenge
- A chance to win daily prizes
Book Adventure is a FREE reading motivation program for children in grades K-8. Children create their own book lists from over 7,000 recommended titles, take multiple choice quizzes on the books they’ve read, and earn points and prizes for their literary successes.
Check with your local library about reading programs in your area. Duval County Libraries are offering many summer reading activities for ages 6-12 and a Tween program for ages 11-13. Clay County Libraries also have a large list of Summer kids activities.
Scholastic Summer Challenge
Log your child’s reading minutes and have them enter to win a Klutz Book Prize Pack.
TD Bank Summer Reading Program
Read 10 books and record them on the Summer Reading Form. Take the form into your nearest TD Bank and $10 will be deposited into a new or existing saver account.
