Free Password Program ~ Secure Your Logins

LastPass | How It Works

Hubby works in IT and he’s adamant about online security.  While knowing your passwords off the top of your head is nice, it’s much more secure for each login to be different and secure.   If a hacker figures out your email password and it’s the same as your online banking, you could be in trouble.

With all the security talk about the Heartbleed bug, it’s easy to change your passwords if you are using Lastpass.

We’ve used the free password program Lastpass for years and love it.  Hear that, it’s FREE!   Hubby and I have a joint premium (paid) account but you can get the free version.

Download and setup with LastPass in minutes. Once you’ve created your account, LastPass prompts you to save new sites as you browse – so you’ll never lose another password.

After saving a website’s username and password, LastPass will autofill the login when you return to that site. No thought, no typing, no work required – LastPass does it for you.

When you save your site passwords (for families sharing an account, you can label them. ) See below, when I sign into my gmail account you can see I have options to sign into 3 different gmail accounts.  Mine is the one labeled with (k).

This is nice because hubby can login to one of my accounts if I need him to take care of something for me.  I love that once I’ve saved a password for a website, Lastpass autofills my login info each time I visit that website.

Lastpass will also generate a secure password for you (like the one in the image at the top of this post)  No need to think about it.

When there are security breaches like the one I mentioned above (heartbleed bug) I just go in and have lastpass generate a new secure password for sites that have been breached.

A Premium account is only $12 per year and if you sign up here, you’ll get 1 month free! Remember, Premium gives access to their suite of mobile apps for smartphones and tablets, as well as additional security features, LastPass for Applications, and priority support from the LastPass team.  I like having Lastpass on my phone for secure logins when I’m using my mobile devices.

This is one of those things that is well worth the $1 a month, but give the free version a try!
