‘Word Magic’ Learning iPhone Application For Your Kids

by Karen on August 3, 2009

iTunes-word

I’m working on a longer more detailed post on my favorite iphone applications but I just had to mention this one real quick.  I just downloaded the $.99 iphone application called “Word Magic”.  My 5 year old daughter (starting kindergarten this year) is sitting next to me playing it as I write this.  She is loving it.

iTunes word magic

As you can see from the picture, they show a picture and you have to pick the correct missing letter.  A child’s voice is heard saying the word “boat” as the picture appears.  If you get it wrong, the child says things like, “try again, oopsie or that’s ok”.  If you get it right it says things like, “fantastic, good answer and beautiful”.  After a few correct answers if rewards you with a “virtual” sticker.  My daughter is a sticker fanatic so this is perfect for her.  At the bottom of the screen you’ll notice you can choose between which letters you would like missing, thus making the game more challenging.   You can choose the level you want and even the maximum word length.  There are only 2 things I have noticed that I’d nitpick over.  One is that there are a few words that may not be known to your child, like “hut”.  The second is that a child is saying the word, so it may not always been pronunciated the way I’d like.  For only $.99 it is well worth it.
