Last year when I took down the Christmas tree I decided to use 2 strands of lights as mood lighting in the house. I added one strand to the top of our entertainment center and another to the top of our kitchen cabinets. I have been wanting to add lights to the cabinets for a while and was looking to add rope lighting. Then I was watching the DIY network one day and they used Christmas lights. Duh! Why hadn’t I thought of that. I plugged in a timer in the cabinet where the microwave outlet is, so it comes on automatically for a few hours at night.

Then I drilled a hole in the top of the cabinets. It’s good to wait till the rest of your family sits down to watch a movie to start this project. I was drilling forever, because my tools just didn’t seem to work right and they paused the movie because they couldn’t hear it. Then my hubby asked if I needed help, to get it done faster? Isn’t he sweet…hehe. You see I’m good with power tools, but not so good on a ladder. So hubby helped me drill the hole.
Then I ran the lights to the top of the cabinets. It’s up so high no one will ever see it!
I took this picture during the day so it’s not the best, but you get the idea. We love it!
These pictures were taken last year, before I painted my cabinets! If you are interested in reading the posts on my Kitchen Refab check them out here.
