This week was Teacher appreciation week, nurses week and Mother’s Day is Sunday! Who’s cruel joke was it to have all of that in one week? Just sayin
I can post this now, because the kids have given them out by now. Last year I made personalized vases for the teachers but I wanted to do something more practical this year. So I referred back to the fabric covered magnetic bulletin boards I made last year for our home. You can click the link to see a step by step guide to making them yourself. I decided these would be perfect for teachers gifts. I found some frames at Goodwill that were just asking to be refabed! (Ok, teachers I know that’s not a real word) What is it with gold frames, they are everywhere, the poor helpless things.
I had metal leftover from my previous project so all I needed was fabric. Would you believe I was in JoAnn’s for an hour trying to decide. My original plan was a black and white fabric, something like this:
It’s classy and should go with any home office or classroom. But I just wasn’t feeling the choices at my store. They seemed rather boring! Then I spotted one I loved. Off to my garage to give those frames a cute little black dress!
Then I covered the metal in the awesome fabric (my opinion) and got some accessories. I found the magnetic paper pads and some cute magnets. Then I had the kids make cards for their teachers.
What do you think?

As a teacher myself, I can say that I LOVE this idea! I would have loved to get one of these.
Fabulous job! I’m sticking this into my file for ideas for my own kids’ teachers…and their bedrooms!
Love the fabric. Must stop at JoAnn and get some for some pillows for guest room. And what a creative idea. I was just going to refurb some garage sale baskets and stock them with spa like supplies (body wash, lotion, candles, decaf tea, etc.) This idea is beats that!
Those magnetic boards were inspirational. I ended up making 2 San Francisco Giants boards for two of my sons and a Raiders board for my other son. They loved them! I will be making a princess themed board next for my granddaughter.
