Phone Disk – Free Until Dec 1 [Tech, iOS]

by Mark on October 31, 2010

Phone Disk is a Windows & Mac app that allows access to your phone’s content. This can come in handy if your computer crashes and you need to retrieve your goodies from your iOS device. (iTunes allows syncing one-way for some of your content, so it’s easy to lose the content. They do this to help prevent pirating.) Snag this now, in case you need it later.

Additional tip: Burn it (and the reg code) to a CD or USB memory stick or somewhere besides your main computer.  This is an app you’d use if your computer dies, so no point in keeping it on the main PC.

More info from their site:

Until December 1st 2010, we’re giving away Phone Disk to everyone for free! If you unlock the software before that date, you get free upgrades and can enjoy the full version of the software on that computer with no expiration (just make sure you enter the code before December 1st)! Use the following registration code to unlock the full version Phone Disk:

Download Solitaire
Solitaire is normally a $0.99 app and is currently on sale for free. Can’t go wrong with having solitaire. Nab it while you can. (Despite the app’s icon, there is no R-rated material in this app. Not sayin’ that’s good, not sayin’ that’s bad. I’m just sayin’.)

Enjoy Listening to Music? [Tech]

by Mark on October 28, 2010

Do you enjoy listening to music? Pandora is a free internet-based music service that offers an upgrade option. Start free. If you love them, hook them up with some $ so they further development. (You’ll see me say that frequently. Some services let you use them free indefinitely. As an IT-worker, I know it takes effort to make things work and develop apps. So, generally speaking, if there is an opportunity to show someone some love by donating a latte or $5, do it!)

I’ve used Pandora for years. I used the free service for years, but then I upgraded since I was using it so much, especially once I started telecommuting. Plus, it drowns out the, “Are you done, yet?” and “Get that post up, yet?” background distractions. It’s a new process here in the Rodriguez cottage …. we’re finding our way.

Back to Pandora … it’s a music service that has some logic running in the background. It analyzes music so it can play music that is very similar to what you marked with thumbs-up, and it’ll play less of the songs that are similar to the ones you marked with a thumbs-down. So, it adapts and learns. Over time, it plays you kick-butt music, customized by your preferences. You’ll learn about new artists, and your selections will expand. It’s really neat to see where I started, only liking a handful of artists. Then, as Pandora exposed me to “similar” artists, my lists grew and grew.

A while back, they added genres, so if you want some 80’s, they’re waiting for you. Did I mentioned Karen often sings in the office as I work? Yea. I’ll stream it live online one day when she’s not lookin’.

Check out Pandora. It’s free and offers mobile access, as well.

Free Coffee at Panera

by Karen on January 27, 2009

discover-breakfast-at-panera

Take time out on Wednesday and stop by a Panera for some free coffee.  Relax a little and maybe enjoy a bagel.

Update:
Panera is accepting donations to support a charity today and they will match the total received.  Jacksonville locations will be donating to The Childrens Home Society.
