Thirsty Thursday is here! My friend Kelly over at Kansas City Mama’s started Thirsty Thursday in an effort to find good wines on a budget under $10. With summer here I decided to try something special. I used FlipFlop Chardonnay to make a Strawberry Chardonnay Sorbet. Chardonnays are a little more dry than I prefer but this sorbet is right up my alley! My neighbor was nice enough to let me borrow her ice cream maker, but I’ve heard if you don’t have one, you can store in freezer and stir every 15-20 minutes.
Strawberry Chardonnay Sorbet with FlipFlop Wine
Ingredients:
2 Cups Sugar
2 Cups Chardonnay
2 Cups Puree Strawberry (or fruit of your choice)
1/2 tsp lemon juice
1/2 tsp vanilla
Boil Sugar and Chardonnay on low until they are combined, then add lemon and vanilla (cool completely). Puree strawberries and strain to try to remove as many seeds as possible. Combine Chardonnay mixture with strawberry puree and put in ice cream maker for 25-30 minutes. Now I had a hard time getting this to set, so I put in the freezer over night and served the next day.
Although the mixture was not sweet when I first mixed it, once we ate it, it was very sweet. I have a sweet tooth and I still thought it was too much. Next time I will reduce the sugar in half and see how that goes. It was a nice cold treat on a summer night.
FlipFlop wines are typically under $9 at my local stores. I have even picked one up for only $6.99.
**Disclosure: FlipFlop Wines sent me the Chardonnay to try. This post, pictures and recipe were written by me and opinions are 100% mine.
