My CVS Trip 6/28 & Some Tips

by Karen on June 29, 2010

I headed into CVS on Monday to grab some items and use my $10 ECB before it expired on Wednesday.  It always good to have a plan when you go in, but don’t base your entire purchase on items being in stock, because you may be disappointed and have to reconfigure your plan while standing in the middle of CVS.  NOT FUN!

My plan was to get 4 of the items on the Household list.

Fantastik $2.50 (spend $10 get $5 back)
Use 55¢ off coupon from 6/13 SmartSource insert
Scrubbing Bubbles Toilet Cleaning Gel
Use $1.00 off toilet cleaning product coupon from 6/13 SmartSource insert
2 Ziploc Freezer, Storage, or Sandwich Bags
Use $1.00 off 2 coupon from 5/16 SmartSource insert

Do the $5 SC Johnson rebate (Must be done by 6/30)

Well I got there and the Scrubbing bubbles cleaning gel was out of stock.  I was assuming there would be something wrong with my plan, so I brought coupons for additional items like the Windex and Pledge, but to be honest, the one item I really wanted was the toilet gel.  So now I have a dilemma.  Pick another item I don’t really want/need or drag both my kids to another CVS and risk the same scenario.  Two things to note when CVS shopping:

1) They will give you a rain check for items out of stock. So you can come back when the sale is over and still get your ECB’s. The cashier will have to manually force the register to print it.

2) For a purchase like this, you do not have to buy all $10 worth of items in the same transaction.  You MUST buy them all in the same week in order for the register to kick out your ECB once you’ve reached your reward quantity needed.

I decided to see if I could buy the other 3 items and get a rain check for the toilet gel.  The manager was happy to write me a rain check and even went as far as to cut out the picture in the ad and told me to hold on to my receipt to also bring back in.

My receipt now has this printed on the bottom:

See how it says I’ve purchased $7.50 toward my reward and I need $2.50 more to earn my ECB?  The CVS delivery truck comes on Thursday, so I’ll swing back in later in the week to redeem my rain check.  If they don’t get them in, I know I have my rain check, so I can get these another week and the cashier will manually push out my $5 ECB.  The good news is I can still do my SC Johnson rebate for the other 3 items I purchased.

Make sure you get those rain checks.
