My Confession – Don’t tell my son

My 8 year old has been playing soccer for years and just this season he started flag football.  This is a new world for me and it included having to buy new athletic gear.  We got the football coupon booklet at Sports Authority and used a coupon for his mouthguard and a standard sized football.  Hooray, I rock the coupons!  They are also required to wear shorts/pants with no pockets.  The first month of practice was a piece of cake in his shorts.  Then it happened.  The temperature in Florida dropped into the 20′s and we scoured his drawers for pants with no pockets.  He went to practice that night with pockets, but we’d have to go buy him new pants before the 1st game on Saturday.  I ran out  to Target and then Kohl’s and was shocked that I couldn’t find ANY pants without pockets.  Hubby checked Walmart on his way home and NONE!  I didn’t panic yet, I just assumed I’d have to head to the sports store, where they would surely have them, after all it’s REQUIRED.  I left Sports Authority with no luck.  Then I hit up Goodwill.  I found pant with no pockets, but I wasn’t lucky enough for them to be in his size.  In desperation I went to the dreaded Mall.  I hate that place.  Sears, Old Navy, Dillards, no luck!  I walked into Dick’s sporting goods and found a black pair of fleece pants on the clearance rack….SCORE.  There was only one hitch.  They were GIRLS pants.  I called hubby and we both agreed since they didn’t have a pink stripe down the side, he’d never know.  :)  YES I bought my son a pair of girls pants, ripped off the tag that said “Girls sweats” and handed them over to him.  The best part is they were 50% off.  Later I ran into Target and noticed the girls section had tons of sweats with no pockets.  So next time I’ll be thinking “outside the box”, or in this case, outside the boys department.  Look, you gotta do what you gotta do right?  Just don’t tell my son!
