This post will remain at the top of the page through the weekend.
Earlier this week I posted the Red Cross information below to help spread the word on how we can help the people of Haiti. I was excited to hear that Crystal over at Money Saving Mom has put the call out to all bloggers and readers to work together to make a difference. I think about how our TV is broken and our car needs repair, but it’s nothing compared to the loss of life or a roof over our heads. I wonder how a small donation from my family could possibly help. But I’m reminded, if we work together, we can accomplish anything. Here are some ways you can help:
Pray – Pray for the people of Haiti and give them strength and hope. Pray for the recovery efforts and the volunteers who have gone to help in whatever way they can.
Donate – Donate whatever you can to help the recovery efforts. This doesn’t mean you have to donate money. You can donate your time, household supplies or even blood.
Text a donation – Send a $10 donation by texting “Haiti” to 90999. ($10 will be added to your cell phone bill) As of this writing, Verizon, T-Mobile, and AT&T are not charging text messaging fees for these charity texts—but Sprint is. AT&T was, but earlier yesterday reversed their position. They’ve gone so far as to say they will also remove text charges on accounts for donations made yesterday, essentially making all text donations made by AT&T customers free. Sprint will be charging customers that do not already have a text plans. Please verify charges with your cell phone company.
Please make you are donating to a legitimate company. Here are a few:
Mercy Corps
Operation Blessing International
Winn Dixie - Donate anywhere from $.50 to $500 at the register when you check out. Winn Dixie will donate to the Red Cross.
Salvation Army
American Red Cross
