Getting Started

save-big-sign-animated

My mission in starting this website was to share with family and friends, all the things I have learned and am still learning about saving money. Saving money is about being observant and taking advantage of opportunities when they arise. It will take up some of your time, but once you learn the basics, it will become easier and even save you time later. I once thought clipping coupons was a complete waste, but I have learned how to use them and I’m saving my family an average of 50% every month, just on groceries alone. My focus will be geared toward coupons, free items, deals and money makers. Here are some posts to get you started saving today. You can also check my categories for additional information. Please check this site daily, as some deals don’t last long. If you have any questions, please leave me a comment.

Karen – I am looking for spreadsheet for tracking actual costs of things by store. Maybe I am confused and have looked right at it, but somewhere I can say that I bought Colgate toothpaste 2 6oz tubes on sale at Target for $xx. Maybe not exactly that detailed, but where I can look to see if something is really a good deal. Is it here?

Thanks!

Karen
I don’t have a spreadsheet set up for that. The one I did years ago was a temporary document I created in excel for the items my family uses on a regular basis. Price sheets for every family will be different, depending on the region you are in and what you deem as important.
I recommend just keeping a notepad with you when you shop at all the different stores and jotting down the prices of items you are likely to buy.

Hi. I will like to take advantage of multiple subscription, but there are few Sundays during the year that the newspaper doesn’t bring inserts. Please advise

Karen,
Your site is sooooo awesome. I have been looking for someone local to watch a blog or to even get my coupon match-ups from, mainly because watching someone’s from MI isn’t getting me the same deal. I have just started couponing 8/1 and I have my subscription for my 2 Sunday papers (FL Times told me that you are not guaranteed to get all of the inserts if you don’t subscribe..and going to Walmart on Sunday when my two papers didn’t arrive, I saw that. The P&G brand savers were missing from all of their papers) The week before I bought two papers from the guy on the corner and one had coupons, both inserts and the other only had one. My thing is that right now I am OBSESSING… : ) I have my binder, and let me tell you it is like toting around a small elephant. : ) My kids are seriously laughing at me. I homeschool and haven’t started the year yet, so I have to get my mojo going before I start on the 12th of Sept. Because I cannot obsess about two things at once. I work at HD and couldn’t make the evening classes that you offered at the Times Union, but a friend went and she brought me the paperwork. Wondering if you are available to answer some questions to help me get “better” at what I am doing so I am not consuming all of my time with trying to get it “all together”. : ) Also, the calendar that you have on here, how can I get one of those for my computer so I can look at it instead of the one on the wall. If at all possible, maybe not one that is kept public. Thanks for all of your help. I sure do appreciate you!!!

Kathy I am scheduling another class for September, hopefully on a Saturday. You can also host a private class if you are interested. If you have questions, I encourage you to ask them on our Facebook wall, b/c if you have the questions I’m sure others have the same one. That way I can answer and everyone can benefit. I’m not sure what calendar you are referring to. Right now the one at the bottom of my site only lists a few things.

I posted a Groupon about Summer Waves a few weeks ago, if you missed it, I’d try to follow them on Facbook and do a google search for discount tickets.
