I found an inflatable pumpkin at the Dollar Tree a couple weeks ago and thought I’d try to decoupage it and make it look pretty.
Of course it was only $1 so what did I have to loose? My time and some sanity, that’s what! Just kidding.
I’m always up for a fun frugal decor adventure.
So I pulled out my old magazines and started layering sheets on. I almost started to cover it with expired coupons, but just didn’t think it would look right.
Once it was covered and dry I picked up some twigs from your yard and began trimming them in 3-4 inch pieces. I then glued them and tied them around a piece of cardboard to hold them in place as the stem. I had no real plan, I was just making it up as I went along. Then I went to bed, and woke up to this:
The poor thing was top heavy and the twigs had leaned to one side and dried that way. At this point I’m thinking FAILURE! But I hung in there because I will not let an inflatable pumpkin defeat me!
Once I added the ribbon and some leftover leaves from my Fall Wreath, I was somewhat pleased. It wasn’t quite bad. I tried to be cute and add some lettering to make out a face, but I’m not in love with that part. I’d turn it around but you don’t even wanna know what the back of the stem looks like.
I think it was fun to try and I’m willing to try again with maybe a different medium. What do you think, hit OR miss?
What would you have done differently?
