I almost panicked today when I realized I had left my coupon binder in hubby’s car and he was already gone for the day! All the more reason to LOVE printable Q’s. There are several toiletry items you can get for free if you know how to work the drug store promotions. Toothpaste is an item you should NEVER have to pay for. This week at CVS is a great example. I had a nice trip this morning and was able to roll over some of my ECB’s. I split this up into 2 transactions:
Trans #1:
Colgate Toothpaste $3.99
- $1 IPQ from here
=$2.99
Softsoap Apricot Body Scrub $4.99
- $1.00 Q in 3/29 SS insert
=$3.99
Snickers Easter eggs (2): 50% off = $.38 each (These were filler items, I’ll explain below)
-$1.58 ECB from here
- $3.29 ECB from here
- $2.00 ECB from here
=$.86 OOP
ECB’s Earned:
$4.49 from Softsoap (limit 1 per card) This should have been $4.99, must be a computer glitch they should fix soon, I’ll see what I can do to get my $.50 back.
$3.99 from Colgate (limit 2 per card)
Trans #2:
Colgate Toothpaste $3.99
- $1 IPQ from here
=$2.99
Candy Easter Eggs (2): 50% off = $.49 each
- 3.97 ECB (Colgate in trans #1) The register would not let me use the full $3.99 b/c you cannot use ECB’s to cover the taxes. The cashier did an override on the ECB making it $3.97 so I could use it.
OOP = $.07
ECB’s earned:
$3.99 for Colgate
I picked up another CVS card for hubby while I was there. Now we can get double the deals! I’ll head back out later this week to get him more of this toothpaste.
I did the toothpaste in 2 different transactions so the ECB’s would print separately. If you purchase multiples of the same item together, the ECB will print together for a total of $7.98. I prefer 2 separate print outs at $3.99 each. This brings me to filler items. If you have an ECB for $3.99, you will need to spend the whole $3.99. They do not give you credit for any remaining amount. In the last transaction, I wanted to use a $3.99 ECB but my total would have been only $2.99. I usually look for clearance or super cheap items to add on, like this Easter candy.
Short summary:
OOP: $.93
ECB’s earned to use next time: $8.48

Hello, I am very new at starting to shop at CVS trying to save on the items my family and I use the most. I went to my first shopping trip yesterday trying to use coupons and get the feel for the experience. I am sure I will get the hang of it once I get use to this whole thing. I have my CVS receipt and I am trying to make sure that I am understanding it correctly. My total OOP for the trip was $24.64 and my receipt says I saved $9.77 . I had a $4.00 off a $20.00 purchase coupon and $3.00 off a $10.00 purchase on Cover girl cosmetics and a $0.25 coupon on 2 snicker bars. I purchased 3 items that were on sale without a coupon and some other items I bought trying to get to my $20.00 amount that I needed to reach for my coupon. I guess I thought from watching videos about CVS shopping and comments through websites that I would be saving more….I just think I didn’t understand maybe some of the errors that I made for this trip. I was suppose to earn ECB’s with this purchase and my receipt all the way at the bottom says Amount toward this reward was $5.89 then under that it says Amount needed to earn reward $4.11 I don’t know where it says how much ECB’s I have towards my next purchase. Is there something I am missing here? Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. If there is any info that I am missing that may help you answer my question please let me know. Thanks
Hi Natalie,
First off, realize you only need to reach the $20 minimum to use the $4 off coupon BEFORE all other coupons. So hand that to the cashier first, then hand over all your other coupons and this should bring you under $20. I’m not sure what Cover girl you bought, but it looks like you only bought $5.89 worth? You had to purchase $10 worth before coupons to get the ECB reward. That is why your receipt says you need $4.11 to reach it and that’s why it did not print for you. The sale ends today so if you want to get that ECB, you have to go back today and spend $4.11 in Cover Girl to get it. Does that make sense? Let me know.
