I’ve been a big fan of Redbox for several reasons. I love the price tag ($1.00 per night), the convenience AND the free codes. I’ve been asked by several people, why there aren’t as many free codes out anymore. Redbox started the free Monday codes as part of a marketing strategy. Now that the word is out and people have tested Redbox and like it, they decided to stop them in May. Well there was a big uproar and in hopes of making customers happy, they decided to let us down slowly and give out a free code the first Monday of the month, for the rest of the summer.
Blockbuster has decided to get on board with this convenience and try out some of there own kiosks. Like Inside Redbox, someone has also started an Unofficial Blockbuster Express website. The official website only has a location search. You can go here to find a location near you. However, I know for a fact there is one in the Publix by my parents house, but the website is not showing ANY for their city. Not sure what is up with that. It seems that they are located inside Publix locations, which means you are limited to renting a movie during store hours. When I was inside Publix they had a free code at the register. Today I was talking to a woman who rented a movie and returned it at a different location. Being a Redbox aficionado, she knew you could do that with any redbox movie. BUT apparently you CANNOT do that with Blockbuster Express. Or should I say, you can, but you’ll incur a fee. She told me she was charged an extra $8.00 for doing this! The problem is the website has no information on it regarding rules or fees. I was able to find a phone number if you need it: 1-877-300-2181. I have not tried the kiosk myself but I may this weekend, just so I can get more information to you. If you’ve tried this or have anything to add, please leave a comment.
FREE code – PTPX9X9
This was the free code at Publix and it’s good till 9/30/09. Hopefully it will work in all locations.
