Back To School Tax Free Shopping

by Karen on July 22, 2010

I love that Florida is participating in the Tax Free school shopping weekend again.  Florida dates include August 13-15, 2010.  During the sales tax holiday, parents and students are not charged taxes on school supplies ($10 or less), clothing, books or footwear ($50 or less).  These are per item, so you can buy $200 worth of clothing and not pay tax, but any single item can not exceed $50.

States That Offer A Tax Free Week or Tax Free Weekend

Alabama Tax Free Holiday (Aug 6-8, 2010)
Connecticut Tax Free Holiday (Aug 15-21, 2010)
Iowa Tax Free Holiday (Aug 6-7, 2010)
Louisiana Tax Free Holidays (including Hurricane)
Maryland Tax Free Holiday (Aug 8-14 2010)
Mississippi Tax Free Holiday (July 30-31)
Missouri Tax Free Holiday (Aug 6-8, 2010) Some counties, districts or cities have elected not to participate
New Mexico Tax Free Holiday (Aug 6-8, 2010)
New York (Shoppers are exempt from 4% state sales tax 365 days of the year – clothing and shoes under $110)
North Carolin Tax Free Holiday (Aug 6-8, 2010)
Oklahoma (Aug 6-8, 2010)
South Carolina (Aug 6-8, 2010)
Tennessee (Aug 6-8, 2010)
Texas (July 20-22, 2010)
Virginia (Aug 6-8, 2010)

Other State info:

Georgia – 2010 Tax Free Holidays have been suspended for 2010 because the bills did not pass legislation.
Washington D.C. – Washington repealed their tax free holiday in 2009 and did not renew it for 2010.
West Virginia – Listed only as a Energy Star Tax Savings

Thanks for the update. It figures that our tax free weekend in NC is the weekend right after my anniversary. Thanks so much for linking up!

Yeah, I’ll be on a boat in the Atlantic when Florida has theirs. Hubby promised me if we need anything I can run into the outlet on our way back home Sunday. “Run In?” Who just runs into an outlet mall. :)
