With back to school, comes some nice free time for mommy, and I choose to head over to Avonlea Antique Mall with my sister. It’s been forever since I’ve been there and I so missed it. Every time I walk in I’m reminded how much I love it. I wouldn’t dare risk taking the kids with me. It would be like a bull in a china shop! They have so much to look at you really have to take your time and even then there’s no way to see everything. I rounded a corner and this GIGANTIC HULK scared me to death. After gaining my composure, I thought the kids would like to see it, so here’s me at 5’4″, with HULK!
While we were looking around in one booth I notice a cute lantern that looked just like one my mom sold at our garage sale. No sooner did I point it out to my sister when she saw the candle sticks she sold there! I guess the owner of this booth shopped our garage sale that day! Small world. Of course the new price tag was over double what we got for them. Which is why I highly recommend garage sale shopping! Here they are:

Not everything in an antique mall has to be antique. There are many home decor items and I love getting ideas from them. I also think it’s fun to find things that are unusual and not every one will have. One of my favorite sections is the iron/garden area. I love the cute statues or fun iron pieces for the garden.

And guess what I found? This decorative piece of metal that will be a perfect topper for my refabed shelf! And it was on sale for only $11! I’ll put it up and then decide if I’m going to leave it as is, or paint to match the shelves.
I have also been keeping my eye out for a bread box for my kitchen. Most of them are too small, too country or just plain too expensive for a box! Well today I spotted this cute little bread box circa 1970′s and I knew he would be perfect. The door opens smoothly except for the knob that needs to be fixed and as a bonus it has a top drawer. The bottom will fit 2 long loaves of sandwich bread and then some. I haven’t decided if I will paint this yet or not. I don’t want it to mess up how smoothly the door opens. I’ll post a pic if I do. It was $28.95. Not cheap but perfect! They have also added a scratch a dent areas where you can find some fantastic deals!

There’s a small cafe inside, OLDE FLORIDA CAFE, that was super busy. They have fabulous cafe food and the dessert bar is to die for. I got the quiche special and it was great. A fantastic way to celebrate “Back To School”! How did you spend the day?
